The development site concerns the urban regeneration of a social housing district located in Salzburg. The intervention is conceived as a careful redevelopment strategy, grounded in respect for the existing built fabric, the preservation of its qualitative elements, and a conscious architectural approach to transformation.

The project stems from an architectural competition held in 2019 and extends over an area of approximately 54,000 m². The site is characterised by linear residential blocks set within a wooded, park-like landscape known as the Moospark, which defines the strong environmental and spatial identity of the area and contributes significantly to its landscape quality.

The design strategy establishes continuity with the existing context, structuring the new neighbourhood into a series of functional plots to be developed in consecutive phases.

STEP 1 involves the construction of 30 dwellings within a single point-like building positioned on an available plot, initiating the phased replacement process while ensuring residential continuity. The five-storey building is conceived as an open volume facing the park, with perimeter balconies extending living spaces outward and large glazed openings ensuring natural light and visual continuity with the landscape.

STEP 2 delivers 184 new dwellings. Four interconnected blocks of varying heights form a continuous courtyard structure, where the central void becomes a shared collective space, fostering interaction and ensuring optimal orientation and daylight for all apartments.

STEP 3 comprises 160 dwellings and represents the most complex phase, as it intervenes within the Moospark, a key landscape element to be preserved. Four new slab-like volumes reinterpret the existing typology, ensuring south-facing orientation and opening onto generous loggias towards the park. Designed for families, the dwellings establish a direct relationship with the landscape, which becomes a semi-private extension of domestic space.
