KINDERGARTEN EXTENSION
The extension of the nursery school was conceived as a volume with pure geometries, serving on one hand as a mediating element between the more public external space and the more private internal space, and on the other as a guiding path to the entrance. The new volume is positioned in spatial continuity with the existing canteen, thereby expanding it. The internal space, which is doubled in size (the canteen is currently 30 sqm and will become approximately 60 sqm), overlooks the greenery and the three large trees through the existing southern openings, and through a new large eastern opening, onto the access square.
The planar form, which could be considered as composed of a square and a quarter circle, resolves the entrance, avoiding closure between two walls and opening it toward the square. Entering the school becomes a moment of discovery for the pupils: they are guided through a succession of privacy, from the square, to the covered external space, to the internal space, each of which presents a distinct spatial quality.
